liberties taken

liberties taken that contradict the probable history/standard sources

  • date of the Seleucid-Mauryan war
  • Pāṇinī’s age, and making him a student of Cāṇakya. Might change this later, only added it for a cameo.
  • the Hellene princess being a love interest of Cāṇakya rather than Candragupta. I might change this later. I made this change because:
    • I need Cāṇakya’s son (Kāmandaka?) to be half-Greek for some scenes to make sense. But maybe those scenes are too cheesy anyway?
    • in the fake “Cāṇakya-Candragupta spat” over imprisoning her, the king has to be the one to have her imprisoned, otherwise Seleucus could simply offer to help Candragupta against Cāṇakya. But maybe this would actually make sense as a pretext for requesting Seleucus’s army?
  • Cāṇakya’s teeth being broken by his father instead of by himself
  • Euhemeristic interpretations of Indian legend: Rāma is taken to have existed in the 8th cen BC, and Kr̥ṣṇa in the 5th cen BC with Jarāsandha as Ajātaśatru.
